In Swift’s own words:

“Back to December is a song that addresses a first for me, in that I’ve never apologized to someone in a song before. This is about a person who was incredible to me, just perfect to me in a relationship, and I was really careless with him. So this is a song full of words that I would say to him.”

Swift and Lautner originally met on the set of the romantic comedy Valentine’s Day. Many people, amongst them me I have to admit, were a bit confused with the two Taylors on set. According to sources Swift professed some worry that there would be confusion on how to address the correct person. Soon after, the two were rumored to be a couple.

An anonymous source has revealed to US Magazine News:

“It wasn’t really developing into anything, and wasn’t going to, so they decided they were better as friends. There was no chemistry.”

But the relationship was not to be. Lautner and Swift broke up in December after he flew to her birthday party. Again, the same anonymous source communicated to US Magazine.

“He liked her more than she liked him. He went everywhere he could to see her, but she didn’t travel much to see him.”

Could the break-up have involved Swift saying some hurtful things to Lautner? Might the song be an apology for the words exchanged? Who knows.

“In life you have a lot of situations that pop up and people come into your life and sometimes you don’t get to tell them what you wish you would have told them,” said Taylor Swift to her fans. “This album is my opportunity to do that. Track by track, each song is a different confession to a different person.”

She intends to title the album “Speak Now”, with a forthcoming release date of October 25 with her label Big Machine Records (BMR). BMR is actually based in Nashville and works with indie musicians. One of the first singles will be a song titled “Mine.” But this does sound suspiciously like another teenage angst song!?
